Re: Core-priority not working on Linux?

Alas, I'm a set and forget type of guy. I run a small data center and really don't want to have weekly tasks to do. I only allow FAH CPU work on my larger servers (32+ cores), since I figure those are somewhat rarer than the typical home desktop I5/I7/Ryzan based systems. That said, I've noticed 32 ...

Core-priority not working on Linux?

Hi all -

I have:

Code: Select all

<core-priority v='low'/>
In my config.xml, but FahCore is still running at Nice 19 (minimum).

What am I doing wrong? I'd like FaH to run at a higher priority than BOINC (which also runs at Nice 19)

Re: Some computers getting work, others not?

Thanks. In my case, I'm running 32 for FAH and letting BOINC's Rosetta suck up the rest.

Re: How much CPU to drive GPU

Looking forward to that - seems like we are wasting a lot of CPU Power and wattage spin looping.

Re: Some computers getting work, others not?

On the dual xeon, changed the slot type from CPU to SMP and set the number to 32 (machine actually supports 56 threads). It got work instantly. The E3-1220 is being less obvious. I checked the network, via a ping to www.google.com (eg. name services is working, network is working). Machine is on a d...

Some computers getting work, others not?

Hi all. I have a pair of I5's that is receiving CPU work (no GPU installed). I have an I5 (6) GPU box that keeps 2-6 CPUs busy I have an I7 that is receiving CPU work (no GPU installed). I have a Xeon E3-1220 quad processer that only gets messages like: ******************************* Date: 2020-04-...

Re: How much CPU to drive GPU

One practical observation under today's circumstances: Optimizing to get an extra 5000 WU/day or so out of a unit is probably not worth the effort. I'm only occasionally seeing all 6 of my GPUs busy - 3 to 5 is more typical, and occasionally 0 or 1. Same on my CPU boxes, although that is more a &quo...

Re: How much CPU to drive GPU

No big surprise... updated the CPU to a 6-core I5 and all cores are pegged. OpenCL may make programming easier, but appears to be wasting a lot of resources. Side Note: The current Gen 8 Intel socket 1151 CPUs use the same socket as Gen 6 & Gen 7 Intel 1151 CPUs but are NOT motherboard compatibl...

Re: How much CPU to drive GPU

Ugh. Received my I5-9400F CPU today. Plugged it in... nothing (won't boot). Plugged the old CPU in - runs fine, rinsed and repeated a few time with CMOS resets, upgraded the motherboard BIOS, no go. Went to the motherboard support page (ASRock H110 Pro BTC+), found a link of supported CPUs, and the ...

Re: How much CPU to drive GPU

Well... I have a 6-core I5 arriving on Thursday. I'll plug it in and see if things improve. At a bare minimum that is 3X as many cores - and of course the I5 has many performance features over the existing Pentium Duo.

Re: How much CPU to drive GPU

Sorry. "Load Average" is a Linux/UNIX term. Its, more-or-less, the sum of utilization by all tasks running on a machine. So on a dual processor, two CPU bound tasks would have a load average of 2. 6 CPU bound tasks on the same machine would have a load average of 6. You need to know the nu...

Re: How much CPU to drive GPU

I would check the following: CPU utilization GPU utilization GPU temprature I have a feeling that you're hitting the limitation of PCIE 1x which is causing your performance to be throttled. If your system isn't well ventilated, your GPUs might be reducing their clock speed to get the temperature to...

Re: How much CPU to drive GPU

you may struggle with PCIE bandwidth to the cards. I believe Etherium doesn't use much but FAH tends to. I assume each of those cards is getting 1x? I'd be interested to hear what ppd those 1070ti's are getting So (6) 1070Ti GPUs each connected to the motherboard by a riser (1X), dual core Pentium ...
