Re: FAH not reporting number of devices correctly!

Oof, for last 50 days only 240 TFLOPS??? Hope, that 2.4 EXAFLOPS weren't reported just because this issue!!!... The current page shows the stats for only 3 days. The text about 50 days is a mistake and has been reported so will be fixed: https://foldingathome.org/2020/09/27/up ... pu-counts/  ...

Re: Could FAH cause cracking sounds?

I still suspect it could be a bad cap somewhere. Finding that is hard to trace. You'd have to find a cap that looks broken, but if they're solid state caps, they're much harder to find. You could plug in a USB audio device, an audio card that you can plug in the USB port. Other than that, it's ofte...

Re: Could FAH cause cracking sounds?

Cab I just check issue is permanent rather than just when FaH is running (which if course could be permanently)... cant see confirmation of this in thread. Yep it is permanent, when fah is not running! Tried even linux without nvidia drivers, double headphones (one brand new). I tried microsoft OEM...

Re: Could FAH cause cracking sounds?

Well, you would have to test the system with other components to be sure. But you can solve this by picking up the sound from a digital source, eg hdmi: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=hdmi+to+head ... _ss_i_1_17 EDIT: It can also be a latency problem: https://www.resplendence.com/latencymon I just foun...

Re: Could FAH cause cracking sounds?

FAH does cause what's called 'coil whine' on GPUs. It's not really coil whine, but capacitors expanding and shrinking very quickly. And is usually only heard when they're rapidly charged and discharged thousands of times a second. Though usually it would indicate a situation in which the charge nea...

Re: Could FAH cause cracking sounds?

having cracking noises [...] tried 2 headphones and even other system. Do you mean cracking sounds out of your Audio-Outputs? If so i would accuse your Power Supply or maybe the voltage regulators on the Mainboard. No overclocking. My psu is excellent - Corsair RM650x 2018. Motherboard asus z390-i ...

Could FAH cause cracking sounds?

Hello, i have my new computer since summer and i was using it months fine. Manufacturer's bios is badly programmed and overvolting cpu by default. While still below safe voltage 1.35v for i5 9600kf. FAH is very very demanding. Even with continuous 100% load on cpu i don't have, as temp high temps as...

FAH not reporting number of devices correctly!

https://foldingathome.org/2020/09/27/up ... pu-counts/ In recent news... fah doesn't report number of devices correctly, which is caused by using containers that have no persistent storage. What does this mean? What is container? I read faq, but there is nothing about containers... I have fah data f...

Re: Launch of new NVIDIA 3000 series GPU's

Suppose the FAHCore uses 100% of some resource that produces too much heat. Suppose some App suspends FAH's use of that reource for 50% of the time to enable the device to cool down. That sounds like a good solution, right? Suppose there is some other APP running that happens to use 50% of that sam...

Re: Launch of new NVIDIA 3000 series GPU's

Please read your own posts ... "But i tried that many times and it had always crashed at some point" but now you say you tried that "like couple times only"... I can see why bruce posted as he did - tbh I felt the same. If you copy a WU data file to a separate folder you can the...

Re: Launch of new NVIDIA 3000 series GPU's

... Problem was: WU always crashed, except once i almost finished a project!!! But i tried that many times and it had always crashed at some point... I don't know if, because of instability, or to many errors piled up. And whether or no these data would be useful, even if WU finished! That was only...

Re: Need option to limit PC resources usage

With the development of ever more performing consumers' GPUs, maybe Microsoft, Apple and some distros will implement such a control at some point, but you can't demand that fr Than why FAH doesn't have option to send data in bursts? As even amateurs could make simple utility to prevent gpu from hea...

Re: Launch of new NVIDIA 3000 series GPU's

Don't you think it is staggering FAH has like 2 exaflops, while they have almost no users yet? :D They could have so many more! Imagine if there was gpu usage limit! I tried workaround: because 1 cpu core is still needed to give gpu the work. I used a stress test and assigned it to this core and i t...

Re: Need option to limit PC resources usage

Sorry you feel this way; the GPU issue is one that FAH cannot do anything about as it is a limitation of your OS and the card manufacturer's drivers. The exact same problem occurs when you play a game where the game will push the card as hard as it can. Depending on your card manufacturer - Nvidia ...
