Re: Project 11715
I'm a bit surprised. It sounds like the researchers are doing this almost haphazard, like the pharma scientists who literally just create drug inhibitor chemicals and do trials with them to see if it works and leads to less resistance (this is what a neurologist explained to her class (I was in it))...

Re: RTX cores for folding@home
I make games so I understand their tech. The 3D transforms are the largest drain on the CPU. If you've ever watched Futurama where the Doctor creates hyperdrive by "moving the universe around the traveler", that's the same thing games and simulations do. All the polygons in view must be ro...

Re: RTX cores for folding@home
All the game benches being published suggest 50% improvement in frame rates for 2080 ti over 1080 ti (without raytracing), so I suppose the project can be expected, participation constancy assumed, to increase its throughput by 50% over the next 3 years.

Re: Project 11715
I have been wondering about that a bit indeed - no good answers until we see how this works in practice though. The crucial thing here is that we're not only increasing the computational power this way, but (in fact this is the more important motivation for me) we also will drastically lower the am...

Re: RTX cores for folding@home
In the Intel GPU request thread, it was discussed that AMD and Nvidia graphics cards only have 30% of the market; Intel has the rest. Only gamer PCs and professional render workstations (owned by a handful of companies) have non-low profile cards. Low profile cards are intended only to provide addit...

Re: RTX cores for folding@home
What are the odds that streaming gaming will kill the consumer GPU as we know it?

Re: RTX cores for folding@home
My current best guess compared to GTX 1080. Eventually we will have real cards to test. What is the source of your information? All of the benchmarks that I've found are based on game performance (either with or without ray tracing) and I doubt those benchmarks can accurately predict how the hardwa...

Re: RTX cores for folding@home
The price of a video card is no longer determined by its suitability to run games, but by its ability to mine (or even fold). As such, I doubt the price of these cards will come down until a lot of people have them. The advent of mining has made it such that it is computing power relative to other m...

Re: Folding Coin disappearing
It seems to be worthless at this point. More holders than money and no influx from anywhere.
I wonder why it was created in the first.

Folding Coin disappearing
Coin was delisted by Polinex. They have told holders they have until the end of August to exchange their funds, triggering a run on the coin.

AMD RX 560 stuck at idle
I click fold in the advanced control, it won't do anything. The client recognizes it as Baffin / Polaris 11. Says it can't find CUDA.
Has no issue with my i7 4770, but I don't want to fold with that, just the GPU.
