I've turned off 100 cores - a drop in the bucket I know. Most of them were BA, some of them were SMP- but if my my BA workers are being given an arbitrary 66% ppd cut, I'm turning them all off - maybe I'll use them to earn money instead of donating money and power.

Re: Change in BA requirements
Equal pay for Equal work is one thing, asking BigAdv users to do some SMP work because it is important for the project is another thing; attempting to force BigAdv machines to do SMP work, for 1/3rd of the "reward" that we get doing BigAdv is something all completely different. My 12 core/...

Re: 12-17-2013 BigAdv Announcement
Well another voice says my three 4P Hex core boxes will be moving onto some other project - not going to run them just for SMP, the PPD/$ is not worth it for me. H. Your call, you get to decide what motivates your actions on your machines. If some other project fits your goals better than folding t...

Re: 12-17-2013 BigAdv Announcement
I think you are spot on here... smp will not receive any more attention other than what is out there now with the other folders. What I do see is a move away from FAH into other DC projects as this is just a wrong decision all the way around and alienates those seeking to help. I agree this will ba...

Re: Bigadv points change
I do not think it would be very wise on Stanford part to add insult to injury, there is already enough grumbling going on in other forums about conspiracy theory's and going to different DC projects. I have a feeling there may be a bit of an exodus if they raise the value of GPU folding for no reas...

Re: point system is getting ridiculous...
This started off as a reply over on the beta forum, but as Dr Pande has requested specific suggestions here, I'm consolidating assorted posts and reposting it here. Rather than having a one size fits all exponential curve over the full range of tpf, how about having a cut off point, then use a linea...

Re: Bigadv points change
So, when the Bulldozer chips come out and people start complaining that 4p Bulldozers are scoring "too many" points, will all of bigadv be re-normalized again, again penalising everyone who runs bigadv? This reduction in base points has not changed the fact that as tpf decreases on the hig...

Re: point system is getting ridiculous...
Let me try and put this another way, Points are the measure of science PG assign to each WU you've contributed to PG. They assign a sliding scale of points depending on how fast you return it. Getting it back twice as fast is worth 41% more. Getting it back in a quarter of the time is worth 98% more...

Re: point system is getting ridiculous...
I'm sorry, this just doesn't compute. PPD is the measure of performance not points per WU. Your rental supercomputer is 40x as fast as your 12 core yet is awarded 252x the ppd. But WU's completed are the measure of performance for PG - more WU's completed quicker is more valuable to them, hence the...

Re: point system is getting ridiculous...
I've been plugging numbers into the formulas, and thinking about the whole situation, and my conclusion is nothing needs to be changed. The two main reasons for that: 1) People are looking more at PPD rather than Points/WU. The QRB is designed to encourage the quick return of WU's. Take this scenari...

Re: point system is getting ridiculous...
As I see the problem, it's not so much the exponential nature of the system, it's the un-constrained growth of the curve as the TPF gets down to very low times. One option then would be some where along the line change the formula to a multiple of the number of points for that TPF. ie If we use a cu...

Re: point system is getting ridiculous...
Grandpa - yep - very dangerous territory. A stepped method will always repulse them as that extra tweak is not rewarded, the formula needs to accommodate them but it needs to cap them. But I can't devise a method that is reasonable.

Re: point system is getting ridiculous...
Bruce, And as for your question about the the 2% value - surely that is for Stanford to answer. How does getting that completed WU back 2% faster help their science? Does it help 1%, 2% 10% ? I can't answer that - but what I have read over and over is that the points are relative to the scientific v...
