yes, a very good point. I learned that when Win 10 automatically updated my drivers couple of months ago. I used DDU and then 373.06 and disabled windows updates.

I think it might actually be a network issue, perhaps when the WU fails to be sent after x number of attempts, it also fails to start the new WU and the slot simply says "Ready" after downloading WU but does not initiate unless rebooted or remove/re-add the slot...
