Does running Linux over a Windows OS return more PPD?

I thought I read, somewhere, that running Folding@home on Linux can earn the user up to 20% more PPD. Is there any truth to this? There are many people that fold w/ significantly more GPU power than my 3 GPUs I have running 24/7, since 9/2016. If there's any truth about what I read, what Linux OS ca...

Is Folding@Home not giving points updates every 3 hours?

Greetings, has Folding@Home stopped sending points updates every 3 hours, like it usually does, for maintenance purposes? I've not had any of the 3 hour incremental updates since late Thur, early Friday. I normally don't sweat this type of thing b/c I usually see the other folders' 'PPD Averages' on...

Re: Has folding returned to normal for you?

You're lucky, then. I have a 970, 1080, and 2080 super. I should be getting ~2.7M PPD. Only getting 1.2-2.2M

Has folding returned to normal for you?

I still have trouble getting W/U's in a timely manner. So, my usual PPD has not returned to what it was prior to March 13th.

Has your folding PPD returned to what you've been getting?

I would usually see a PPD avg of ~2.75M. I did remove my 970 b/c it was installed in the highest slot, and my 1080 in the next slot b/c it wouldn't fit where the 970 goes. In my main PC, I run a 2080 Super. I would notice that if only one of the cards was getting a W/U, it would likely go to the les...

Re: Will I lose credit for a W/U if I pause folding?

Pausing will reduce your bonus because it will take you longer to complete the WU but I'm pretty confident that is unrelated to whether an individual upload attempt will succeed or fail. The time to complete the WU is measured from the initiation of the download to the acceptance of the upload, so ...

davidcoton wrote:I've not tested that, but I think (as with download attempts) it will reset the retry timer. Whether that makes the upload happen any quicker is anyone's guess, and you will lose some points on the active WU.
We're close to the same individual rank. :)

Will I lose credit for a W/U if I pause folding?

I notice that sometimes a W/U will complete, but fail to upload as my credit slowly dwindles. I've seen this periodically for years. Would pausing folding, then un-pausing help speed up the upload process.

I get why W/U's are hard to come by, but this?!

I know why all of our folding is shit. We can either suck it up or cry into our Cheerios. I'm doing a little of both. But I'm not getting credit for many of the W/U's I am getting. I'm talking several hundred thousands of points. When I 1st started folding 3.5 year's ago, I learned there was a way t...

Re: Is it possible tap directly into one of these servers?

Oh, so this isn't to do w/ any GPU's. Do you bother to have your CPU folding? I don't, b/c I don't get much credit(points) for having my CPU cores involved in folding, which is disappointing considering they're no slouch in the processing dept. I run a 6th gen i5 on my main PC, and don't get much po...

Thanks, Joe. What checkpoint frequency do you use? The default, or fewer to increase performance?

Re: Is it possible tap directly into one of these servers?

UPDATE: I don't believe my 2080 was getting a single W/U. At least not while I was sitting in front of my screen - that's more than 8 hours per day. Numerous times I had removed the 2080 from its slot, then reinstalled. I saw no difference. Tonight, I uninstalled the folding client, including the DA...

Is it possible tap directly into one of these servers?

Can one tap directly int one of these servers via advanced settings: 140.163.4.231 / plfah1-1.mskcc.org or 140.163.4.241 / plfah2-1.mskcc.org. I know it's hard to get W/U's, now, but I'm seeing people who I was on track to overtake in a very short while starting to pull away, and the time to overtak...
