Re: Saying goodbye
My point remains valid. I knew when I first posted on this topic that I was fighting a losing battle on a pro-F@H forum who's users have gone to great lengths to argue the benefits and overlook the negatives. (EG: Using numbers from the classic version on C2D or even Pent D would be silly and seemed...

Re: Saying goodbye
You're right, it is a waste of time because you have no clue as to what you're talking about. I get 2000+ PPD with a single E8400 @ 3.8GHz and it uses 105 watts all day every day. I get 7000 PPD with 4 systems ranging from Pent D 3.0 to E6750 to E8400. Occasionally I run a couple more E6750s and hav...

Re: Windows 2000 [Not supported in version 6.xx]
I got updates on our W2K Pro machines last week via Microsoft automatic updates. Its not unwise as it runs the same software as XP in almost every other instance. It's not unsupported until 2009, and maybe even longer.

Re: Saying goodbye
There is no estimate involved. I have a MS6115 voltage meter. We plug our box into it and it tells how much voltage is passing through it. It is quite accurate up to 2000 watts. This is the reading for the entire box, not single components. However using the graphics version of F@H also increases th...

Re: Saying goodbye
Sorry to see you go Zora. I'm curious to know what version you were running. Unfortunately the F@H developers seem to have lost the plot on this issue. With graphic interfaces that now use twice the power or much much more than CPUs, I suspect many users will be rethinking their commitment to the pr...

Re: Windows 2000 [Not supported in version 6.xx]
OK, i understood most of that. The differences I've seen are measurable, although not earth shattering. And of course each WU is different so that makes it hard to compare apples to apples. I just hope the developers rethink support for W2K. IMO it's still the most stable OS MS has ever provided. It...

Re: Windows 2000 [Not supported in version 6.xx]
I'll discuss this with our client dev team. Thank you VijayPande. For what it's worth, I've found a slightly simpler way to get 5.91 working again on both XP and W2K. 1) uninstall all F@H clients, or start with a clean system 2) install FAH6.22beta2-win32-SMP-mpich.exe 3) rename Folding@home-Win32-...

Re: Windows 2000 [Not supported in version 6.xx]
Sorry, but it's not the OS that determines the folding speed. The CPU client runs at exactly the same speed on Windows and Linux. If my understanding of how the SMP version works is correct, your statement is not exactly true. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong: It is my understanding that...

Re: Windows 2000 [Not supported in version 6.xx]
Tmoble,
Using your method worked for me. The only exception was that after deleting those files and running with -configonly, the program went through settings and again closed. Removing the -configonly flag solved the issue. So far so good on 2 machines. Thanx again.

Re: Windows 2000 [Not supported in version 6.xx]
No surprise that Linux would run F@H better since a basic OS like W2K runs it slightly better than XP and Vista with identical hardware. All the more reason for not stopping support for W2K I'd think. However I still like having the option to run other programs and games on our extra machines, so Li...

Thanx Tmoble. If I get some time to play with it I'll give that a shot.

Re: Windows 2000 [Not supported in version 6.xx]
If anything, I'd think there would be much less .dll files on W2K than on XP. I still have customers running Windows 95, so many people will continue to use W2K long after MS support stops. It's in Stanford's and the cause's best interest to keep supporting it. My problems with 5.91 were simple enou...

Re: No Windows 2000 Support?
... I wouldn't expect there to be very many people with systems fast enough to run the SMP client that are also running Win 2K. Thread merged. As a system builder, we have several C2D machines that are running W2K and were used specifically for F@H. None of them will currently work with 5.91 anymor...
