Re: Temperature/GPU Usage unstable; drops align with checkpo

What are your complete system specs? A larger amount of RAM could help as Linux will use it a buffer for HDD writes. Making sure there's always a free CPU core for checkpoints would also help. USB and spinning disks aren't great for random access, but writing should be cached in RAM or the HardDisks...

My system can't connect to .200 at the moment.
All connection attempts fail.

Deregulation sounds good until things go wrong. California found out what happens when Electricity Generation goes to "Free Markets" and manipulators get involved. Texas has similarly found out that deregulating the grid from power generation has side effects. Freezing weather is so uncomm...

Re: Nvidia crippled Crypto Mining driver

It's a stopgap solution at best. Different cryptocurrencies use special algorithms so tracking each down and preventing false positives is a fool's errand. I can't imagine it will take long for this to become a cat and mouse game.

Re: Odd GPU behavior - terminal window + FAHClient

It successfully found the GPU and Cuda.
But the GPU=false is in the config.xml
Removing the flag ir changing it to True and a reboot should get you up and running.
This line here is where it gets the config file from.
Config: /etc/fahclient/config.xml
You'll need a sudo to edit files in /etc

Re: Odd GPU behavior - terminal window + FAHClient

There are some oddities with the way the service helper is setup. The newer SystemD services are different than the old init.d setup. But it certainly works on my system with 20.10 Xubuntu. I don't quite remember the details of how i got it working. This page https://github.com/cdberkstresser/fah-co...

Re: Need help selecting a Processor

The 68k per day on the M1 is ok for cpu units. Especially considering the power level and core count. I get closer to 125k give or take with 6 or 10 cores (can't remember exact number offhand) on desktop. But in the end all science completed is valuable and your contribution is appreciated.

Re: Why does voltage drop on 12v rail when card folding

If it is still folding, I'd consider this to be a bad sensor reading or attribution. Certainly the GPU only needs around 1V to operate and 1.9V supply clearly handles this, but it is not ideal for the power delivery. Have you tried something like Hardware Monitor to check other voltage lines? Withou...

Re: which windows is faster for fah?

Bruce, I just found the link by happenstance. I looked at the beta page on a whim and saw it there first. I went back through the start folding page later on. I double checked when I read the previous posts. So for me, the Start Folding link takes me to the Linux page with 7.6.20 links up. Hitting a...

It's on both the beta page and the main page now.
So hopefully they'll make an announcement soon.
It usually takes a few days for an official forum post to go up.

Chips are made in South Korea (Samsung Foundries) and generally assembled in Taiwan and China. With associated parts made in China, Japan and the surrounding areas.

Have you tried rebooting router?
The download should not take 20 minutes.
You could also try a vpn and see if it makes a difference.

Re: CPU folding is hardly worth any points

GPUs are vastly more powerful than a CPU at the calculations F@H needs.
Your CPU only has a few core vs hundreds in a GPU. This is the main reason GPUs get more points. They are doing more science.

Re: The system folds on CPU, but not on Nvidia GPU

The general guidelines for linux are relatively simple. Ubuntu 18.04 and its derivatives are officially supported by F@H. To get folding operating correctly, make sure the nvidia packages provided by Ubuntu are installed. You can check with the Proprietary Drivers tool. Ubuntu handles all the necces...
