I think it might have been a problem with the drivers, but anyway I have got Mint up and running now and it's doing great - between 4.5-4.7m PPD
I've now upgraded another rig from Windows to Mint and that has got a nice PPD boost too. Fully recommend it to anyone

Re: Low PPD from 4x 1080tis (~400k each) - help please!
Thanks everyone for your help. I finally got to the bottom of it - needed to update bios to F22. Now getting between 3.8-4m PPD :D I tried getting linux running but hit a snag - FAH didnt detect my GPUs and on a reboot it got some kind of error that prevented linux from booting. I will look into ins...

Re: Low PPD from 4x 1080tis (~400k each) - help please!
It has been mentioned elsewhere in another topic about low GPU utilization, are yours set to "High Performance"? That will make a difference in GPU usage which has a direct effect on speed of processing and points. Do you mean 'Chose a power plan' in windows control panel? If so, that was...

Wow thanks for such rapid/detailed response foldy Yes, running bios F20 I don't think I did install the chipset drivers actually (I tried to originally but it failed for some reason). I've just followed the link you sent though, installed and restarted, but still no difference. Have 4 gpus currently...

Re: Low PPD from 4x 1080tis (~400k each) - help please!
Just checked and current GPU utilisations are 2 @ ~70%, 2 @ 80%. 2 of the GPUs were folding 9*** projects @ ~350/400k, the other 2 were doing 11*** projects @ 800/850k. Over the last few days I have seen each slot get 800k+ PPD, it just depends if it is allocated a 11*** project or not. Pausing all ...

Low PPD from 4x 1080tis (~400k each) - help please!
Morning all, I was previously running a 4 1080ti pc that was pulling 3.8-4mil PPD successfully for a couple of months, using a Gigabyte X99-UD5 board. I needed to free this PC up for something else so I have setup a new rig and transfered the old 4 1080tis to the new rig but frustratingly am only pu...

Re: Cheapest 40 lane CPU for 4x 1080tis
I've already got a rig with 4 blower style 1080tis with that board. They fit fine and the temps aren't too bad as I run at 100% fan speed. As you'd imagine it's LOUD so I run it in my garage. I was planning to watercool it but I'm a bit nervous of the cost/complexity/maintenance, so it may just stay...

Re: Cheapest 40 lane CPU for 4x 1080tis
Thanks for all the replies - really helpful. I've not heard of infinite loops and cpu clock speed not effecting gpu performance but this is a bit of a game changer. I guess this means that as long as you leave 1 core free per GPU then your GPU folding performance should not be effected by whatever e...

Cheapest 40 lane CPU for 4x 1080tis
Hi all, Currently planning a new 4x 1080ti build and was hopping for some advice. The cheapest 40 lane cpu I can find in the UK is an E5-2603V3 at £215 https://www.scan.co.uk/products/intel-x ... cpu-retail Couple of questions about this 1 - Will this cpu bottleneck 4 1080tis? I know you don't need ...

Re: Low PPD with a 970
Thanks bollix - v interesting and insightful! I was quoting my PPD from the FAH client itself (although I was waiting until jobs were 10%+ done before paying any attention, I know how inaccurate the early stages can be) I've tried reinstalling FAH and drivers and no improvement sadly. I've also down...

Low PPD with a 970
Hi All, I brought a 970 a few months ago, specifically for folding, and was getting around 250kPPD I recently had to move the card over to a new machine (same OS - win 7) but found PPD dropped to 125k PPD (consistently, on every WU over the last 4 days). I'm wondering if it's the driver I'm using. I...
