Re: (Client connects) but WU does not download

Good advice from all of you. I will ask around, see if there's any way with IT or something. Until then, you can consider this thread closed.

Thanks!

Re: (Client connects) but WU does not download

I.E. the place I work. I didn't say it was a personal connection. I am on my system at work, through my work's connection. TierPoint is not the ISP, as we are running on a DS3 connection through a different circuit provider.

Re: (Client connects) but WU does not download

So I'm now pretty sure it's our firewall. Out of curiosity, and trying to isolate the problem, I used a completely different computer, connected it to the network, it also will connect to assign.stanford.edu through Safari, but the client will not connect. Also, I discovered that our firewall is Tie...

Re: (Client connects) but WU does not download

Sorry for the delay in the update. I completely disabled TrendMicro... to no avail. I also tried Tor just out of curiosity to see if that would work... also no dice. The problem is that no other program seems to be able to connect (which doesn't make any sense to me so far, except for pure browsers ...

Re: (Client connects) but WU does not download

Thanks for the help. I'll give disabling TrendMicro a try and see if that works. I don't have my computer right now, but I'll give it a try first thing Monday. I'll keep you updated.

Thanks!

Re: (Client connects) but WU does not download

Just to make it easier, there's not possibly some code I can edit in the config file (or god forbid in a .dll file.. *sigh*) to make outbound and inbound connections occur on the client on port 443?

Re: (Client connects) but WU does not download

No, that makes sense, I guess I just don't understand how my "security suite" can recognize some types of software, but not others... as in my example with Chrome working, but not IE working. Which doesn't make sense. It is TrendMicro. Also, IE is the default install browser. I installed C...

Re: (Client connects) but WU does not download

Yeah that's so weird. To add insult to mystery, I can use Chrome to connect to assign3.stanford.edu etc... but if I use IE, it won't load the page. There are of course no special settings in Chrome, and no proxy setup in Internet options, so I don't know.

Re: (Client connects) but WU does not download

16:27:54: Config: C:/Documents and Settings/gcallant/Application 16:27:54: Data/FAHClient/config.xml --- 16:27:54: CWD: C:/WINDOWS/system32 The work directory (CWD) looks pretty strange, too. I mean, config.xml seems to be in a sensible place, then suddenly... :e?: I have this running as a service ...

Re: (Client connects) but WU does not download

Yes it is my system, but my ISP blocks port 80, and 8080 (verified with a port scan). No, my ISP does not require the use of a proxy server, but certain ports on my system are blocked (apparently). I didn't realize that a browser could connect even if port 80 was closed (apparently mine is). But por...

(Client connects) but WU does not download

I have checked ALL (1,2,3- & 4!) of the assignment servers. with ports 80, and 8080, they all come back OK! My client connects to each of the servers, but then it says it downloads 0 bytes. Just to shout out- I do not have access to my router, gateway, or firewall (I know, that would be the firs...
