Re: PS4 / XB1?

Thanks Bruce, I didn't know about Foldit, but a quick overview looks like it does have some fun and interesting characteristics of combining human intelligence with folding. I'll have to look more closely at it over the weekend. Wifi on a plane makes app downloads problematic. Do you have any sugges...

Re: PS4 / XB1?

Some fairly recent news on the PS4 looks like it has achieved 10 million units sold (http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/18793 ... -5-million). Not too shabby. I have to believe that if a PS4 client were made available, Stanford would see it as a valuable contribution, if any comparison can be made to...

Re: PS4 / XB1?

I agree with you on the PS3 viewer -- it was nothing short of stunning. I used to pipe the output to an LCD (at the time) display in my foyer as a form of "living" artwork. It never failed to generate a bunch of questions from guests, particularly the ladies, which was quite a nice surpris...

Re: PS4 / XB1?

Bruce, do you happen to know the level of engineering resources Sony and Stanford devoted to creating the PS3 version of FAH in terms of engineering man-months, or some other metric? I'd like to get some level of understanding of the complexity of the development effort at that time. Since the new S...

Nvidia Global Impact Award

I wanted to bring this new Nvidia award to the attention of the researchers associated with FAH - the Nvidia Global Impact Award, which will be given out annually. The qualification criteria directly aligns with the interests of researchers running projects at FAH: "It will go to a researcher o...

Re: Computer hardware continue advances. [URL]

Adam, you may find this article equally interesting. While some amazing claims are being made relative to performance against existing supercomputers, the logic of how this breakthrough in optical processing could dramatically improve simulation performance is very interesting and makes logical sens...

Re: Q: adding "ns/day" to client output

Having the ns/wu captured would give 3rd party monitoring apps like HFM the opportunity to summarize by work unit the total number of ns a donor has contributed to the trajectory, or segment under investigation. ChristianVirtual makes a good point in that as donors become more sophisticated by learn...

Re: Welcome to new member Jingcheng Wu

1. Exactly the reason why having someone responsible for Donor Communications to explain just why the DAB has not met, or better, when the next meeting is and the agenda. The point is to Communicate with donors about the major issues being discussed, and where appropriate and as determined by the DA...

Re: Welcome to new member Jingcheng Wu

The position JC filled was not simply about notifying donors about late-breaking news. It had a much larger job definition than that. Along with notifications, a number of ideas have been discussed over the years, some of which emanated from the Donor Advisory Board discussion, some of which have be...

Re: Welcome to new member Jingcheng Wu

JC, It's been a few months since you were introduced to the FAH community. I'm hoping that in that time, you've had an opportunity to assess the status of donor communications and identified improvements that can be made, along with a sense of the timeline to implement them. Would you mind giving us...

Re: 2 of my 4 GPU's are in Ready/Download state for long tim

All is fine on my end now as well.

Thank goodness, I was fearful my electric bill would go down this month :)

Seriously, much appreciation for the feedback and quick resolution.

Re: 2 of my 4 GPU's are in Ready/Download state for long tim

I'm having the same issue - all 16 GPUs - mix of 7970 and 780ti systems - not receiving any work units. Have started/stopped slots, rebooted PCs, checked internet connections and diagnosed/troubleshot everything I can on my end. Can a mod please check server status again? Thanks...

Re: future core 17 WU?

Joe_H, we are in rabid agreement on the time it would take to implement changes in the assignment server allocation logic to properly assign WUs to those GPUs able to run them most efficiently. I've been folding since 2009 and recognize the time and effort needed to get changes like this implemented...

Re: future core 17 WU?

David, you and I may simply have to agree to disagree. Here's why: Core 15 does implicit calculations, while Core 17 does both explicit and implicit, and effectively can run the same calculations as an SMP WU. I'm sure one of the decision criteria on initial points assignment of Core 17 WU was the c...
