Re: (102 = 0x66) using sci-biology/foldingathome:Gentoo
FYI - I found a volunteer running a system-wide ~amd64 Gentoo with 4.0 kernel and all that jazz. They had no issues running foldingathome with the reproduction settings I used a few posts back. Whatever the issue is, it seems to be specific to your system somehow. :/

Re: (102 = 0x66) using sci-biology/foldingathome:Gentoo
Any suggestions would be great, axs. If I can't run it as a normal user, how is it supposed to be run as a daemon? Should I be starting it from .xinitrc or something like that? The way it's set up in Gentoo is that the daemon is started and stopped via openrc, specifically /etc/init.d/foldingathome...

Re: (102 = 0x66) using sci-biology/foldingathome:Gentoo
I don't know if this matters or not, but I'm running Gentoo stable with a 3.14 series kernel and glibc-2.20, everything built with gcc-4.8.4 and linked with ld.bfd. I'm also using -march=corei7 (for my i7 processor) rather than -march=native, so my code (edit: i mean binaries, not code) might be a b...

Re: (102 = 0x66) using sci-biology/foldingathome:Gentoo
OK so a bit of information: Gentoo's package does install folding@home to /opt/foldingathome , as generally /opt is the best location for self-contained prebuilt binaries. That directory and everything in it is installed with ownership of foldingathome:nogroup and 755 permissions (ie world executabl...

Re: (102 = 0x66) using sci-biology/foldingathome:Gentoo
And incidentally, I believe this is a 'supported' install method, according to special permissions issued to the Gentoo project by Pande: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=22524&p=242433&hilit=gentoo+folding#p242020 The content of that thread gives us permission to make folding@home available in Gen...

Re: Requesting permission to include FAH as Gentoo Linux pac
Thank you for the special permission!! The Gentoo Linux community sincerely appreciates this.

Re: Requesting permission to include FAH as Gentoo Linux pac
The EULA does preclude installing the v7 Folding@home client via Gentoo's portage package manager with out written permission. If someone were to create such a package for portage and submit it to us I believe permission would likely be granted. Excellent. Please accept the following ebuild (packag...

Re: Requesting permission to include FAH as Gentoo Linux pac
The license that we have with v6 (which is an FAH license) doesn't match this, and our legal group is _very_ strict on ensuring license compliance with upstreams... The license we have has (c) 2001-2004 at the top, and it states "You may only use unmodified versions of Folding@home obtained thr...

Re: Requesting permission to include FAH as Gentoo Linux pac
6 months, any word? As it is seeming to be too cumbersome for Gentoo Linux to obtain written permission to include a "third party install script" and therefore include FAH newer than version 6 in its repositories, maybe there would be a way for Gentoo Developers to contribute the ebuild (a...

Requesting permission to include FAH as Gentoo Linux package
(Originally posted at the end of a 9-month old thread elsewhere) FAH doesn't officially support gentoo. V7 has two Linux installers, one for Debian / Mint / Ubuntu and the other for RedHat / CentOS / Fedora. There may be knowledgable Linux folks who will figure out how to tweak one of those installe...
