Re: My Beowulf cluster
Okay so I've gone back through and looked at the individual setups for each unit, and I think I've discovered that running the FAH clients with my custom startup scripts may have been the issue. Somehow or another, the clients weren't running correctly, most likely due to being started at an imprope...

Re: My Beowulf cluster
That very well could have happened. I'll check out what it says about the -forceasm and SSE optimizations. I just added an old HP system with an Intel Celeron processor to the mix. This one has 768mb of ram I believe, so it's not terrible. I also cut down the installations, completely getting rid of...

Re: My Beowulf cluster
It appears that several of my units missed their deadlines. I'm not sure what the deal is there. They aren't running much of anything else. I am guessing that it might be a simple matter of processing power. I'm going to go back through the system logs and see if there have been any problems with do...

Re: My Beowulf cluster
Okay thanks for the input. I'll let you know if I have any unexpected issues that I can't figure out on my own. Especially if it turns out to be a bug or something. I don't expect anything from this point on. I've got my ship running pretty tight now. I'm just playing the waiting game at this point ...

Re: My Beowulf cluster
The P-IV's do have hyperthreading in fact. I'm not sure how to set it to ignore that honestly. I'll see if I can find it in the guides. I've just added an 8th unit to the cluster and set it up with FAH and all that. It's got it's correct config with the big units and all that. I'll check on everythi...

Re: My Beowulf cluster
Oh I wasn't aware of the bonus system. By the way, I wanted to know what the suggestion was when it came to size of work units. The info on the systems are as follows: I haven't taken them apart in a while, so I can't tell you exactly what's in them in terms of hardware. beowulf0: AMD semperon at ~2...

Re: My Beowulf cluster
Aha! see that's a problem. I switched the units over to a more unique username. "Aaron_Miller" I'm not sure why they are showing up in the system as "ATG" still. I had a feeling there was a problem. Okay so is there any way to fix this on my end? My configuration files show that ...

Re: My Beowulf cluster
Alright, I took the time to login to each one and check out the numbers, they are as follows: beowulf0: Project: 7705 (Run 27, Clone 9, Gen 10) beowulf1: Projcet: 6871 (Run 618, Clone 2, Gen 101) beowulf2: Project: 7704 (Run 16, Clone 4, Gen 17) beowulf3: Project: 6894 (Run 53, Clone 2, Gen 3) beowu...

Re: My Beowulf cluster
Ok some kind of weirdness. I looked at all the logs and all the client.conf files and found out that for some odd reason the client.conf files on a couple of units weren't right even though I set them up through the fah6 -configonly command. I verified all the user ID's they're all different, and I ...

Re: My cluster
Okay so weirdness in the stats. I've checked all my units, all of which run headless now and I administrate them from my laptop. (Just learned how to do that, so cool!) I am still only seeing 5 active clients, and it should be more like 9 now. I have 7 machines in the cluster, one laptop and one des...

Re: My cluster
I believe I have it all straightened out now. I have all 7 units up and running with most of the final setup done for the cluster to operate as a Beowulf. The FAH clients are setup to start at boot for all the machines and to get to work in the background, I've verified all the configs and such and ...

Re: My cluster
I found out in the email that I got for creating the passkey that I had been using a different user name with the passkey, I'm not sure that matters, but I changed it to reflect all the correct data and restarted all 5 of my clients where they left off. I'm going to add the 3 new clients as I get th...

Re: My cluster
Oh very good! I looked at the log but wasn't sure what I was looking at honestly, some of the numbers and things meant nothing to me because I don't know much about the internals of FAH. Each unit does have it's own HD and each has it's own operating system. That is what I meant by "fat client&...

Re: My cluster
Right, as it is right now, the cluster is just a series of networked machines. It's well on it's way to being a fully fledged Beowulf. I suppose you could call it a Beo-Puppy right now. It has a lot of the interfacing setup, but I've been having to learn a ton about setting up the interfaces in orde...

My Beowulf cluster
My questions are in reference to a Beowulf style cluster that I built recently that I'm running FAH6 on. The machines are all running Fully Automated Installation, a flavor of Debian Squeeze. They are not running FAH6 with message passing or any of that. Right now the cluster is more like a series o...
