Re: Client keeps re-adding specific unwanted GPU slot on res
Resurrecting this thread to say two things: ... and second: I disagree that it is EVER right to automatically add slots after they have been manually removed, especially without saying anything . For a first install, sure. But afterwards at the very least give the user a warning and inform them of w...

How many Shaders/CUDA Cores are required to be useful?
As far as I understand it, memory and frequency aren't as important as the number of shaders/CUDA cores. Because the actual calculations are mainly a LOT and not necessarily complicated. (From point of view of a processor at least.) So my understanding would be that a good indicator to look at when ...

Re: Running FAHclient on a cloud resouses on temporary VMs
Instead of a full VM just for FAH, you could also run FAH inside a docker container that runs inside any other VM.
Probably somewhat less efficient, but much less work to set up every time.
There's several dockerfiles on dockerhub to use as inspiration.

Re: get a new WU
I don't think that's possible. OR at least not in a supported way. However, maybe it won't take that long - I too had an estimated time of 24 hours recently, but when I looked back a few hours later it was down to 5 hours. So maybe it's merely the initial estimate that is off. (I'm sure others will ...

Re: WorkServer connection failed
I had this too, it stopped by itself (I think?) after I closed and started the client. Either the restart helped, or it finally found a WU. I *think* the problem is simply that right now MANY more are folding, so the servers can't keep up with dishing out WUs. (See also the thread in announcements -...

[NaCl] Tampermonkey Script to display timeout of WU
As you know, the NaCl Chrome client is rather minimalistic - intentionally so. However, it also doesn't display some information I consider essential - namely the actual timeout when the result will be discarded (yet still rewarded). So, today I finally took the time to do something about it: https:...

In-game game, "identifying" proteins inside human cells
(Not sure if this is fitting here - feel free to remove if not. I thought it might be of interest.) I've recently come across a Minigame inside a game/MMO where the goal apparently is to identify/locate the (stained) proteins inside a human cell, and to classify where/in what pattern the protein can...

Re: Core x17 - system getting sluggish? (Win7, AMD)
Thanks for the replies - "screen lag", yes that seems to be right. I remember having similar issues when I accidently plugged the monitor to the weak card. I'll look into it all once I'm back home, maybe Core x17 isn't as bad as I'm imagining it to be :-) ("bad" as in "cause...

Core x17 - system getting sluggish? (Win7, AMD)
I don't find a better word to describe it - windows task manager says overal CPU usage doesn't exceed 50%, memory even less. Yet when FAH is running (two Core x17, on Radeon HD 66xx and 69xx, Win 7 64Bit, driver up-to-date 13.152) everything is getting sluggish - reacting delayed. I'm not talking ab...

Re: Core 17 - WU sizes? Will there be WUs like in core 16?
Warning: Bitter ranting ahead. You would be better off letting your computer fold overnight 1 day a week and not fold the rest of the week. I like folding while I use the computer for other stuff that doesn't need the GPU. With core 16 that was no problem. It's one thing to have the GPU running in ...

Re: Core 17 - WU sizes? Will there be WUs like in core 16?
Please note that the last paragraph of the blog mentions that some AMD HD 5000 Series GPUs get low PPD and they are trying to figure out a solution to this issue. The way I read it, they do try to find a solution, but it seems they'll continue with or without a solution - so far there isn't one. Be...

Re: Core 17 - WU sizes? Will there be WUs like in core 16?
What card do you have ? Radeon HD 6970 and 6670 . There are different sized WU; but I also believe in total those WU will grow in size with the capabilities of hardware. More/faster science ... They shouldn't outgrow the power of the cards, though. Threatened? That would imply malice, and that's si...

Core 17 - WU sizes? Will there be WUs like in core 16?
According to this: http://folding.stanford.edu/home/core16 ... d-of-life/ Core 16 is done and Core 17 will soon (?) be the new standard. Can anyone tell if those Core 17 WUs will be like those we get right now (project 8900, others?), or if there will be a way to get smaller WUs? Because right now I...

Re: No WU for Radeon 6850?
I'd like to add that core 17 WUs may take longer than a core 16 WU. They're quite large (the core's more efficient, but the WU is huge), so my main GPU (6970) takes over a full day to complete for a single WU. [edit]To clarify: not trying to dissuade, just make sure you have enough time to finish th...
