Re: Bigadv points change

We agree about not berating people in general. That's why the best practices faq uses language like "recommendation" instead of "don't cheat you dirty hacker" But that leaves me confused by your conflicting statements. You want a clearer statement about not cheating, but then yo...

Re: Bigadv points change

Whilst entirely agreeing with the need for greater accountability and home forum authority for a wider DAB, I don’t think we’re in a position to criticise the individuals following the core hacking practice. Although the guidelines seem perfectly clear, when you drill down to the source quotes, the...

Re: Bigadv points change

@ texinga - There's always going to be a few posts that, even out of the individual's normal nature, contain a personal or team attack due to a peak of emotion. It's usually best to skip over it and not respond. I've found your, Jester's and a certain 'gone fishing' person's (to name but a few) cont...

Re: Bigadv points change

6903/6904 should have remained in beta long enough for the points issue to be flagged and altered then, they weren't and people jumped on them as fast as they could set their machine up to receive them. Then complaints break out about the points and ALL -bigadv folders were penalised not just the o...

Re: Bigadv points change

Though a client that can automatically reconfigure itself has not been proposed, I can conceive that it might be possible to write one. Suppose a machine with N cores (N presumed to be large) can't get bigadv and it's reassigned to standard SMP. That works, but there's constant bitching. If it went...

Re: Bigadv points change

Nobody likes their contribution to earn less that it once did, but considering all of the factors, that seems to be the best way to put the system back in balance. I realise that this was one way to handle it but surely not the best way. The ramifications continue to sink in. I've just picked up a ...

Re: Bigadv points change

Firstly I should say I understand why Stanford may seek to change the current points structure. The bonus for bigadv work units has created too much demand for this work type and is therefore reducing demand for other projects. In addition, there has been unease from a number of participants that th...

Re: 130.237.232.237

I seem to be suffering from the same issue. The log mirrors one of MIBW's above, the wu begins to upload for 15 minutes (almost to the second) but then fails. Could the server be timing out? Pure conjecture but may explain why some are having no problems if they have a fast connection. The size of t...
