Re: What CPU is better? Intel or AMD?
I tried to GPU fold, but I realized it was a huge power draw. The hardware outlay expenses might be lower than for a CPU system, but over the year following, electric costs far outweigh that. Of course, if you pay a very different amount for electricity, the equation could change. I was able to sust...

Re: WU Listings For Project 6013 [Good & Bad]
Got the same unit: p6013 R0 C160 G98. TPF is 1:06:46 on an X6800 @ stock 2.93 GHz with a GT240 also folding. It's like we're all utilizing one core and seizing up the simulation. Process Explorer showed both A3 threads receiving almost full CPU time, though. Edit: RAM is 4 GB dual-channel. OS: Win7 ...

Re: bandwidth used by folding
We need to know what kind of hardware will be folding. A major factor in bandwidth usage is the speed of the processors. Fast processors finish units quickly and therefore download/upload more often. As for client type, SMP2 is a huge bandwidth user on fast systems, I've noticed. It blows bigadv out...

You may move the .exe file out of its normal directory while it's active, just not into the recycle bin until the current work unit has finished or restarted.

p6013 R0 C160 G98
One of my dual-cores had this unfortunate assignment. With an expected completion time of 107 hours versus a 72-hour hard deadline, I had to delete it. What's with the rash of Run-0 6013's that take almost as long as bigadv units? [08:33:38] - Connecting to assignment server [08:33:39] - Successful:...

Re: FAH-Addict: Folding@home's premier news site.
you can delete the Core while F@H SMP2 Client is running. Does this applies to Windows SMP2 Clients too? Yes, it even works on the GPU clients. since there is a new version of the Core for Linux, does it mean that a new version for the Windows Core can be expected? One would hope it doesn't crash o...

Re: What is ppd?
That project has no bonus. I'm guessing the GTS250 is downclocking, or is not the GTS250 we know of. A program called GPU-z will be able to tell if the card is downclocking. Fixing the problem might entail a change of drivers or it could be as simple as setting power management to performance mode (...

Re: Missing WU Points
That is sad to hear, since I have not changed anything You changed your user name! That's the basis of assigning credit. A typo is a mistake. A consequence of the freedom to pick any user name, occupied or not, is that the computer will accept any typo. I have seen multiple cases, over the years, o...

Re: Super Computing Marches On.
Drifting off-topic, I suppose . . . but what classes as a behemoth? Since there are no export restrictions on single-precision performance, it wouldn't matter how large a behemoth is. :) I was going for a random term to describe the typical class of hardware that falls under broad export regulation...

Re: Super Computing Marches On.
Sorry to burst everyone's bubble. To be ranked on the Top500 list you need to perform 64-bit floating point arithmetic. FAH is almost exclusively 32-bit FP. Therefore the FLOPS on the client page are not comparable to those oft reported Linpack benchmark scores. Computers with very high double preci...

Re: Project: 2684 (Run 6, Clone 1, Gen 0)
Update: Despite claims that someone completed 2684-6-1-0, I was reassigned this unit yet again today, twice in a row. On my second attempt, it EUE'ed in 3 seconds like before and uploaded 13251 bytes to the server . On the attempt immediately following - my third - my CPU began folding it successful...

Re: Project: 2684 (Run 6, Clone 1, Gen 0)
Got the same work unit. Immediate EUE, log error was "Client-core communications error" (8B). Was waiting a few days to see if anyone else completed it... thought I didn't see my client upload anything. Our errors are similar yet different. Console log: [13:08:53] + Processing work unit [1...

Re: How many users do a work unit.
It's not only bad WU's that EUE. Many people have bad (temporary) configurations or unstable machines. Since we have orders of magnitude more computing resources than Stanford does, they send several of us the WU in question so as to get "statistical" data on whether the WU can be complete...

Re: How many users do a work unit.
The point of confusion seems to be that, in the case of an EUE, the subject work unit is reissued multiple times. Therefore, you cannot tell from an instance of duplicate WU that something's wrong with the work servers. It could always have been someone else's failed unit. I've noticed that when peo...

Re: a Hyperthreaded Celeron
It's a server-oriented processor (ECC support) for when you don't need CPU power but rather PCI-e slots and/or memory capacity and bandwidth.
