Re: SQUID Proxy problems with assign.stanford.edu

Sorry, am abroad again, but just tried it with a VPN-Session: Nope, the working proxy does not return a signature, only the success/error message. The non-working proxy does, however, return it's signature, which I posted before: squid/3.0.STABLE18

thx!

Re: SQUID Proxy problems with assign.stanford.edu

I guess the squid folks know about an issue there, see the link to the blog post. And since our IT dept was working with (some of) the squid team, I assume they've told them about the problem. Anything you want me to do? The proxy error page of the working proxy does not tell me the version of squid...

Re: SQUID Proxy problems with assign.stanford.edu

Out of curiosity -- do you know *how* this other configuration is different than the other one? I'd have to find out tomorrow, but I assume they did not update that one proxy to the same squid version as the main one which caused all this fuzz. Maybe something like a backup proxy that nobody knows ...

Re: SQUID Proxy problems with assign.stanford.edu

Very nice, got a response from our IT wizards last night and just tested - they have one of the proxies running with another configuration and that one works for me. I'll switch to that one after the currently running WUs are done. Thanks for the temporary fix, tear! The IT guy pointed me to a relat...

Re: SQUID Proxy problems with assign.stanford.edu

Nice work tear! I've sent an email to our IT wizards with a link to your last post, maybe they can use your work and tell the Squid people to take care of the bug. :D :D

I'll keep you posted.

Re: SQUID Proxy problems with assign.stanford.edu

Hey tear. Here the results:
testD fails on both (Safari and Firefox) with a message from the Proxy: Error Message. testE fails in Safari, returns OK in Firefox - same as for testA-testC.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for not giving up! :)

Re: SQUID Proxy problems with assign.stanford.edu

Can you please try following URLs via your uni's proxy? http://braxis.org/testA http://braxis.org/testB http://braxis.org/testC Just tried, and they all fail in Safari, but all deliver an OK from Firefox :D. Both browsers run through the proxy. From home, only C failed (Safari). Safari tells me: Th...

Re: SQUID Proxy problems with assign.stanford.edu

I can check that tomorrow morning; I don't know of any other website that troubles the squid, but I assume there are a few more since the IT-dept told me they are looking for a way to subdue the few stubborn websites. :) Maybe the information in my first post in this thread helps, especially the las...

Re: SQUID Proxy problems with assign.stanford.edu

I assume there are many ports above 1023 open but the well known "abused" ports. I can run a Torrent client with altered port (55555). 8080 does also work to directly connect to my private Apache.

tear set up a proxy running on port 443 and that seems to work well for now! Thanks m8!

Re: SQUID Proxy problems with assign.stanford.edu

I'd have to test more thoroughly, but I can only use some well known ports in order to "get out" of my Universities' network. Everything through port 80 has to go through the proxy, 443 can go straight. There's maybe some other ports like 21 and 22 and more, but those above 1023 are most l...

Re: SQUID Proxy problems with assign.stanford.edu

Thanks for the replies! As far as I can tell, the header of assign.stanford.edu is somewhat malformed, but in a way that any proxy software has no problems with it. Squid is an Open Source Proxy software and is being used by our university, and it got updated to a newer version. Worked flawlessly be...

Re: SQUID Proxy problems with assign.stanford.edu

Thanks John for chiming in. Problem is that the University had to Setup the Proxies with a newer version of SQUID and I only discovered that it cannot handle assign.stanford.edu when they rolled it out to the productive systems. They say that they're trying to find solutions for the few websites giv...

SQUID Proxy problems with assign.stanford.edu

My University is tangling with the Proxy Software, and now I get an invalid response from http://assign.stanford.edu/ ( see HTML ). This is what the Proxy creates: ./squidclient -p 80 -h <ip omitted> -v http://assign.stanford.edu Request: 'GET http://assign.stanford.edu HTTP/1.0 Host: assign.stanfor...
