Re: How to constrain % processing
Light mode defaults to pausing WU processing on GPUs while you are actively using keyboard and mouse. Otherwise known as fold on idle. There are GPU utilities you can use to limit how much power your GPU draws at max utilization, the folding client does not provide that function. However if your UPS...

Re: I stopped receiving my points
Without a third party monitoring app, there is no way I know of to tell easily which folding slot was not returning WUs. For v7 clients that would be HFM.net, it hasn't been updated for v8 clients yet. HFM.net also keeps a record of WUs worked on and points earned. The v8.4.n Alpha client is getting...

Re: I stopped receiving my points
At some point your systems downloaded a large number of WUs that were not returned successfully within the deadlines and your completion percentage dropped below 80%. Currently that percentage is at ~78%. You can check your bonus status with the one of the apps here - https://apps.foldingathome.org....

Re: Command line control?
https://github.com/FoldingAtHome/fah-client-bastet/issues/119 The ticket "Add support for command line state control" 2024-08-27 was marked as completed. Should I understand that now for users of the current version of the client for Windows there is the ability to schedule client activit...

Re: Scheduling folding in Windows
Unfortunately, the current version of the Windows client only contains the following executable files: ... These directions only apply for v7 of the F@h client software, the last release of that was version 7.6.21. Older releases can be downloaded from here - https://download.foldingathome.org/rele...

Re: Thread Limitation?
You need to opt-in for notifications when there is a reply. That is one of the options under the text entry window when using the full editor such as through "Post reply". If after enabling reply notifications they don't show up, there could be a problem with the mailer, but it is working ...

Re: Thread Limitation?
Try setting up a resource group with just 32 CPUs assigned to it. It is possible you got WUs that were not large enough and the folding core spent all of the CPU time reconciling the separate threads. Possibly post the log showing the startup of a WU and what is reported as it runs.

Re: Thread Limitation?
Windows is a bit behind the hardware with respect to high core count processors, and also has licensing issues on how threads are utilized. Some of that is unlocked with a Win 10 Pro Workstation or Enterprise license. But one constant in recent Windows versions is use of 64 thread processor groups. ...

Or the institutional firewall at the research institute where the F@h server is located is blocking a range of IPs that corresponds to your ISP.

Re: W7 computers not getting work assignments
The GTS 250 is too old to be used for folding. It is based on the Tesla microarchitecture, the oldest Nvidia GPUs supported are based on Kepler which is 2 generations newer. Kepler GPUs will fold using OpenCL code paths, newer GPUs based on later microarchitectures will use CUDA. The Fermi GPUs (for...

Re: W7 computers not getting work assignments
In raw processing power the i7-860 and I7-2630 QM are roughly the same with similar benchmarks. The I7-2630 QM being a generation newer and a mobile chip does that using about half the power. It also has the advantage of supporting the AVX instruction set, the i7-860 only supports up to SSE 4.2. Tha...

Re: W7 computers not getting work assignments
Looking at the specs, the I7-2630QM appears to have the stronger CPU, but a weaker iGPU. So it might depend a bit on other factors such as software and usage as to which is "weaker".

Re: W7 computers not getting work assignments
The client build still will run on W7, the issue is some of the library support required for the newer folding cores is not available for W7. So as I recall, CPU projects using the A8 core still can run. But not those requiring the A9 core. With the GPU folding cores I don't recall the point at whic...

Re: W7 computers not getting work assignments
Windows 7 hasn't been supported for some time, the occasional WU those systems have been receiving would be from some older projects using older folding cores. You might be able to run the desktop system a bit longer if upgraded to W10 or by changing the OS to Linux. The laptop would depend on what ...

Re: So the app is dead?
Yes, the Sony supported app for Android phones has been gone for several years. Sony ended support for it and it was not picked up for further use by F@h.
The client apps for PC, Mac and Linux systems still are supported and in use. That includes Raspberry Pi 4 or better systems running Linux.
